Brighton Goes Gospel is about more than just singing. We’re a friendly, fun-loving, supportive community choir that aims to inspire, encourage and challenge each member to reach their goals, both personally and collectively.
Anyone can sing
While we have many talented singers, you don’t need to have any experience of singing or music to join in and discover the power of your voice. Under the expert guidance and infectious enthusiasm of our Choir Director and Musical Director, along with our band of talented musicians, we will help give you the confidence to sing. We’re not a religious choir but we’re passionate about soul and gospel music. We’re in it to enjoy ourselves to the max!
We’ve grown in confidence and experience
We began our journey back in September 2000 when Sandy Holder and Jackie Blackwell, inspired by a gospel workshop in London, set up BGG. Since then, over 5,000 choir members have taken part in our bi-annual workshops and performances. We’ve taken the stage at The Royal Albert Hall, Brighton Peace Festival, The Amex Stadium, Brighton Marathon and even sung at the Labour Party Conference, to name a few.
Two choirs for all levels
Once a week we come together to rehearse, sing, dance and have a great time. Many of us arrive feeling tired and stressed. But one and a half hours later, every one of us leaves on a high. That’s the power of gospel singing.
We have two choirs, the Workshop Choir and the Performance Choir. The Workshop Choir is open to anyone and there is no audition required. The Performance Choir is a smaller auditioned choir focusing on a higher level of performance.
Both choirs perform twice a year at our end of term Grand Concert.
*Brighton Goes Gospel is a ‘not-for-profit’ community choir with charity status, run by a voluntary committee of trustees. Although we are non-denominational, most of the songs we sing have religious references eg ‘Jesus’, ‘Lord’.
